Kim Perlak

​The duo of Kim Perlak and Francisco Mela connects the sounds of modern classical guitar and avant-garde percussion. Their original works and spontaneous composition feature modern, impressionistic, lyrical guitar playing, and a full range of imaginative textures from the drumset. Through this new music, and an open spirit, the duo invites listeners to become a part of each performance in spirit through their active listening presence. 

 

The Perlak/Mela Duo was founded at Berklee College of Music in the summer of 2024, where Kim serves as Chair of Guitar, and Francisco serves as professor of Percussion. They have performed at The Berklee Performance Center, and at David Friend Recital Hall. 

 

Their debut recording, "Spaces," which features three multi-movement pieces by Perlak and a spontaneously composed three-movement work, will be released in April 2025 by Sacred Black Records.
